What was the initial inspiration for Math Evolve?

The inspiration to make Math Evolve grew out of my experiences as a teacher, struggling to get kids excited about math and looking for creative ways to make math practice fun.  I was tutoring a 4th grade student with an iPad, but had a hard time finding fun math games to help him practice multiplication.  I loved video games when I was a child, so I thought I could make a really fun and interactive game that my students would connect with. I definitely got lot of inspiration from old-school arcade games like ‘galaga’. The project was a natural step for me because it combined my passions and interests: education, technology, and creative expression.

What is your favorite aspect of your app?

I really like that the math is completely woven into the gameplay of the Math Evolve, and not a separate feature that is presented alongside the “game”.  I strove to make the experience of the game a cohesive experience that would gradually increase in difficulty and introduce the player to new challenges. I like Math Evolve’s learning curve and the way it motivates students to continue playing and improving.  However, I have to say my favorite part of Math Evolve is the music.

Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers?

     Aside from the ‘game’ portion of Math Evolve, I wanted to include a distraction-free mode that could be used by teachers and parents to help students hone their skills in a more targeted manner.  Math Evolve’s practice mode allows you to practicing specific math facts and tracks the player’s performance to provide valuable data for parents and teachers. I really enjoyed creating Math Evolve, and i hope kids around the world get as much enjoyment from playing it.
