Nora’s Crabby Day HD | Emotions App
Nora’s Crabby Day is a wonderful addition to our educational app review site! Helping kids cope with and understand emotions that they feel has a long lasting impact.. As you will see in the brief videos, kids get scared and angry at times when they don’t know how to deal with what they are feeling.
Nora’s Crabby Day reinforces loving values and opens the way for a dialogue with kids about their feelings. Whether for a group or an individual child this is a great app. You will find as the story concludes, how the impact of the whole family, their hugs and smiles, and a sense of safety, turns Nora’s frown upside down! This app is presented to us by PicPocket Books.

What was the initial inspiration for Nora’s Crabby Day?
Our inspiration for this book was first and foremost our lovely daughter Nora, who is now going on 20. She had her share of crabby days growing up—and with her strong personality—seemed to literally be able to turn everything around her crabby. The book’s dedication to Nora states, “when she smiles, we smile,” which is completely accurate. Like all parents, we found that every day presented a new opportunity to cope with emotions and feelings. Over time, we found that hugs, talking about things, and even macaroni and cheese seemed to work best to create harmony in our house. Today, Nora is a happy, delightful young woman who brings us joy every day.
What is your favorite aspect of the app?
It is difficult to identify one favorite aspect. We love the graphics, how it ends on such a happy note and how Nora learns to find her smile. We love that what started as an idea in our minds, eventually came to life particularly with the adorable narration. And we smile every time we see the crabby plate of breakfast eggs.
Is there anything else you’d like to say to our readers?
One additional thing we would like to share is how exciting we found the entire process of creating an app. Our initial thought for Nora’s Crabby Day was to publish a printed book. At the time, apps and iBooks were still in their infancy, so the whole process was new to us. It was incredible to discover all of the possibilities that existed with sound, music, visuals and more. And we very fortunate to partner with PicPocket Books, which made the entire development experience wonderful and allowed to publish a professional book that makes us very proud. ~ Jan and Todd Graveline
