Meet The Developer!
Shannon “PEA-casso” Seip, co-founder of Bean Sprouts Café and Cooking School and mom of two boys (one is pictured with her)—helped design the app “Bean Sprouts: Cooking Fun for Kids.”
What was the initial inspiration for your app?
We wanted to give parents a tool that would get picky eaters excited about trying healthy new foods. We find that making food fun—by being a little silly and playful—goes a long way in introducing kids to new tastes. So we created an engaging app just for kids 8 and under that features our cute cast of silly pea and bean characters—including Peacasso, Let it Bean and Pea Rex– who guide users through playful recipes, star in food games and magically appear in videos.
What is your favorite aspect of your app?
I really like how the app has something for kids of all ages – from kids as young as two or three to older kids in grade school. As a mom of two young boys, I really enjoying being with kids in the kitchen—so I’m partial to the videos we created that feature our most popular “Imaginibbles” recipes from Bean Sprouts Café and our book, like Crocamole— a guacamole hummus disguised as a crocodile. Kids seem to play the videos over and over again and imitate the kids in the video.
Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers?
We believe giving back is important, so a portion of the proceeds from the app will benefit The Junior League’s Kids in the Kitchen initiative—which has been providing hands-on experiences to teach children about healthy eating since 2006, especially in lower income communities. We are proud to partner with them as we both aim to get kids excited about eating healthier by making food fun and engaging.
