5 Dice: Order of Operations Game
5 Dice: Order of Operations Game is a jewel presented to us by Justin Holladay. An app for a time when teachers are saying ‘Bring your devices to school and let’s get the best out of them’! I just love it when teachers become developers and express their passion. This app is designed to help kids practice their order of operation. A very nice feature is that teachers are able to receive immediate feedback of their students’ progress through email.
Designed as a game, this app will be very enticing to your middle schoolers – Kids love to win! There is also a whiteboard included to work out problems. Teacher Alert! This Developer/Teacher did a great job! Recommended to all age appropriate classrooms, including elementary students for addition and subtraction Target practice.

Meet The Developer!
What was the initial inspiration for your app?
I’m a middle school math teacher venturing into game development, trying to create simple math games designed to help students to make sense of mathematics one concept at a time. Being a new teacher, and maybe a little idealistic, I was very disappointed with the archaic teaching practices still used especially in the middle school math class. I believe that this is a very important and critical time in a students life and their opinions, attitude and feelings towards math are engraved into them at this age and probably will never change again.
My goal is to replace the current drill and kill tools that teachers currently use with interactive games and activities that will help students practice math in an engaging highly involved way.
What is your favorite aspect of your app?
Being a teacher my favorite feature of this game is the feedback loop with the student and teacher/parent. As a teacher or parent it is sometimes really hard to see if there is any actual learning taking place by playing a game, hence the default for many teachers is to not play games.
My math apps have a built in progress report that can be sent to the teacher helping the them to quickly see if their student is struggling or not being challenged enough (I like to call this formative assessment).
